Living Life to the Fullest: Lillyburn’s Resident Bucket List Initiative

At Pacific Care, we believe great care is about more than meeting daily needs - it’s about truly knowing each resident as an individual and helping them continue to live life to the fullest. Our “bucket list” initiative is one way our team puts person-centred care into action, by listening to residents’ wishes and making them a reality, no matter how big or small.
Eleanor’s Unforgettable Sidecar Ride
One of the most memorable moments has been 90-year-old Eleanor’s thrilling sidecar ride through the Campsie Hills, accompanied by a convoy of 16 bikers. Eleanor had always loved the idea of experiencing the open road this way, and our staff worked hard to make it happen. The joy on her face told the whole story — and the adventure was so inspiring it was even featured on STV News.
Elizabeth Takes to the Skies
For Elizabeth, staff arranged something she had dreamed of for years — a chance to sit in an aircraft cockpit. Thanks to Leading Edge Flight Training at Glasgow Airport, Elizabeth was able to pilot a virtual flight across Poland, experiencing the excitement of being at the controls. With the encouragement of our team, her lifelong ambition became a reality.
Craig’s Special Day
When planning Craig’s bucket list wishes, staff worked closely with his wife, Muriel, to make sure they reflected the life they had shared together. First, they revisited the Campsie Hills for a picnic at the “Carpark in the Sky,” a place filled with happy memories of Sunday afternoons.
Because woodworking had always been such an important part of Craig’s life, the team also arranged for him to return to his garage workshop at home. Reconnecting with his tools, sanding wood once more, and even meeting an old neighbour made the day deeply personal and meaningful.
Margaret’s Meringue Moment
Sometimes the simplest wishes can be the sweetest. Margaret’s dream was to enjoy one of Caulders Garden Centre Coffee Shop’s famous cream meringues. Surrounded by her friends Cathy, Jean, Hazel, Sandra, and Sheila, she relished tea, meringues, and conversation in a setting she loved.
Care That Puts People First
These moments show what person-centred care at Lillyburn is all about — understanding what truly matters to each resident, and going above and beyond to make it happen. Whether it’s a thrilling ride, a return to a lifelong passion, or simply a favourite treat, our staff are committed to creating experiences that celebrate the individuality of every person who lives here.
The initiative has been such a success that our other care homes are beginning to introduce their own bucket list projects, ensuring that residents across all Pacific Care homes have the chance to see their dreams come true.
As one team member said:
“These moments bring joy not just to residents, but to staff and families too. It’s a privilege to make these dreams a reality. Age should never be a barrier to new experiences.”
The bucket list continues to grow, with more wishes being planned every month. We’re proud to show that compassionate, person-centred care means ensuring every resident feels valued, celebrated, and truly at home.
