Pacific Care Homes Embrace the Power of Intergenerational Activities
At Pacific Care, we are dedicated to providing holistic care and our commitment to fostering meaningful connections through intergenerational engagement has taken root, creating a vibrant tapestry of shared experiences, laughter, and companionship.
Residents from our care homes in Paisley and Kirkintilloch have been actively participating in activities designed to transcend age barriers. From story time sessions to engaging in creative arts and crafts projects, the bonds formed between our residents and the younger generation have been fulfilling and meaningful for everyone involved.
The Multifaceted Benefits
Building on the transformative effects of intergenerational engagement, we have observed the multifaceted benefits it brings. Research highlights enhanced cognitive abilities, reduced feelings of isolation, and a profound sense of purpose for our care home residents. This newfound purpose is intricately linked to improvements in mood and a greater sense of control in their lives.
Bringing Generations Together at Our Homes
Adding a unique touch to our intergenerational activities, our homes have embraced initiatives like "Grandfriends" at Mosswood Care Home. Collaborating with local nurseries, residents engage in arts and crafts sessions and parties, fostering connections that span generations. Additionally, the "Adopt a Friend" programme with Riverbrea school brings free entry for residents to fetes, nativity plays, and more.
At Lillyburn and Kintyre Care Home, our residents actively participate in a toddler group twice a month, supervising activities and playing with children in engaging building, reading, and singing sessions. The upcoming penpal scheme with a local nursery is set to create a bridge of communication, connecting young and old through the written word. Furthermore, 6th-year students from the local area, embarking on a journey into social care, volunteer and gain valuable experience at Lillyburn, enriching the lives of our residents.
Adding a unique dimension to our intergenerational activities, Birdston Care Home has been actively engaged in welcoming primary 6 and 7 children from Lennoxtown primary almost every Friday. This initiative is set to continue until June next year and has proven to be a resounding success.
The children, who have lessons in dementia-friendly care, participate in a variety of activities, including games, chats, and arts and crafts sessions. The goal is to create lasting connections between the younger generation and our residents, fostering an environment of understanding and companionship.
Stanely Park Care Home welcomes six dedicated students every week, engaging in games, arts and crafts, and heartfelt conversations with our residents until March. The presence of Pat from the local Catholic Church, conducting services every other week, brings a special touch to our community, with the nursery set to stage a Christmas play for residents to enjoy.
Breaking Down Barriers
Intergenerational engagement at Pacific Care homes transcends mere participation in shared activities. It's about breaking down barriers and building bridges between generations, creating an environment where everyone thrives. The exchange fosters a sense of community that goes beyond age and background.
