    A Trip Down Memory Lane

Posted by Birdston Day Care Centre

Birdston Day Care set off on Tuesday to visit the Scotland Street School but unfortunately, upon arrival, it was found that their lift was out of order. This would not ruin their day as after some quick thinking they were on their way to The People’s Palace at Glasgow Green.

The service users admired the beautiful Winter Gardens and then sat down for a lovely lunch provided by the BNH kitchen.

The group was taken into the museum where they were astonished by all the interesting displays. The museum featured Billy Connelly’s “Big Banana Boots” and auld single end tenement flats, a model of Duke Street Jail, an old-fashioned grocer and an Anderson Air Raid Shelter. There was also an area devoted to the Glasgow Barrowland Ballroom which took many of our service users back to the 1960s. Service user Ronnie Harwood said it was “a good trip down memory lane”.

After everyone had finished viewing the displays the group went back down to the café where they enjoyed a cup of tea and biscuits before returning to the minibus.

Alex Pringle said he had “a marvelous day”. The whole group loved seeing all the sights and sounds of Glasgow in its heyday!
